Google Shopping (XML feed)
A feed for Google Merchant Center: your products in ads and the Shopping tab.
For your products to show up in Google shopping ads and in the Shopping tab, Google Merchant Center has to receive your catalogue as a file on a regular basis. This plugin builds that file and keeps it at a permanent link — Google collects it itself and picks up current prices and availability.
What it does
- Builds the product file for Merchant Center: id, title, description, product link, main and additional photos, price, availability, condition (new, refurbished, used) and brand.
- Adds a «Google: product category» field to your products — you fill it in on the product card, and anything left empty falls back to the value set in the plugin settings.
- Passes your own shop category as a separate field and groups the variants of one product together so Google presents them as options of a single listing.
- When a product has a pre-discount price, both prices go into the file — the regular one and the sale one.
- Converts prices into the currency you choose using your shop's rates, and lets you select what goes out: categories, a product type, a brand, a saved list or only products in stock.
- The file sits at a permanent link and is rebuilt on a schedule — hourly, daily or weekly.
What you need
- A Google Merchant Center account with your shop's site verified — that is where the permanent link to the file is entered.
- A Google category filled in on your products, or a fallback value in the settings: Merchant Center requires it for a number of product groups.
- For the file to refresh by itself, a regular scheduled task must be switched on for your site.
Google gets the weight and dimensions
Google works out the delivery cost in an ad from the weight and size of a product, and the feed had neither — so shoppers were shown a figure other than what they pay in the shop. Weight is now sent as shipping_weight, and length, width and height as their own attributes. Weight can be set for the whole product or for a single purchase variant.
An icon of its own
In the «Plugins» section and in the list of installed items the add-on now shows its own icon instead of an identical box, so you find the one you need at a glance. The icon appears on shops running version 1.30.0 and newer.
