Page titles and descriptions from a template — for search and messengers.
The page title and description are the first thing a shopper sees in search results and in the link preview when your page is shared in a messenger. Filling them in by hand for thousands of products is impossible, and if you leave them empty the search engine writes its own text, usually a poor one. Here you set a template once per kind of page and the text is composed for the whole catalogue.
What it does
- Keeps separate templates for the home page, catalogue sections, products, brands, tags, information pages and the shop's own search page.
- Drops the page name, shop name, product price, section and the number of products in a section into the template — each kind of page offers its own set of placeholders.
- Besides the title and description it sets keywords, the heading shown on the page itself and the picture used in link previews.
- Keeps pages that have no business in search out of it — the in-shop search results, for instance.
- Never overwrites manual work: if a product or section has its own title and description, those are used. A switch reverses this, so the template always takes precedence.
- Templates are kept separately for every storefront and every language of the shop.
What's new
Titles and descriptions for blog pages are now set by a template, the same way as for products and categories. There are four page types — the blog feed, a blog category, the post itself and a tag page — each with its own placeholders.
The setting appears only in a store that has the Articles section. On an older store the add-on works as before and you will not see any extra fields.
Ready-made templates removed
The block with template examples is gone from the section: it took up the screen and gave little in return. The title and description templates themselves, the list of variables and the length counter are all still there.
The section in the new panel
Title and description templates are edited in the new control panel. The list of variables sits next to the form: click a variable and it goes into the field where your cursor was. A length counter shows when a title or description runs past the recommended size, and ready-made templates apply with one button.
An icon of its own
In the «Plugins» section and in the list of installed items the add-on now shows its own icon instead of an identical box, so you find the one you need at a glance. The icon appears on shops running version 1.30.0 and newer.
