Sitemap
A sitemap for search engines — with every language version.
Search engines discover pages by following links, so a new product may go unnoticed for weeks. A full list of your shop's addresses speeds this up: sections and products reach search faster, and pages that nothing links to from the menu are not lost.
What it does
- Publishes a general list at /sitemap.xml on the storefront domain, plus separate lists per section: products, catalogue sections, information pages and the home page.
- Refreshes itself: only enabled sections and published products get in, every address carries its last change date, and empty lists are not produced.
- For a multilingual shop it lists the other language versions next to each address, and can split the lists by language if you prefer to watch each language separately.
- Lets you choose which sections to include and tell search engines how often pages are expected to change and how important they are.
- Lets you edit robots.txt, the rules file for search robots, separately for each storefront; the link to the sitemap is inserted into it for you.
- Keeps the ready list for a set time so frequent robot visits do not load the shop, and rebuilds it once you save the settings. The lists open in a browser in readable form, so you can check what got in.
What you need
- A domain set for the storefront: addresses in the list are built from it, and each storefront gets its own list.
What appears in the shop
This is what a shopper sees once it is installed.
New shop pages
- /sitemap.xml The sitemap on the storefront domain — search engines walk through all your shop pages by it. Alongside it, per-section maps open: /sitemap-products.xml, /sitemap-categories.xml, /sitemap-pages.xml, /sitemap-blog.xml. Which sections to include is set in the plugin settings.
- /robots.txt The file with rules for search robots and a link to the sitemap. The contents are edited in the plugin settings, separately for each storefront.
What's new
Articles now go into the sitemap: the blog feed, its categories, the posts themselves and tag pages. The Articles section takes its place in the sitemap alongside products and categories, so search engines find the blog straight away instead of following links from other pages.
In sitemaps configured before this update the Articles section is switched on by itself: otherwise the articles would have quietly stayed out of search and you would have found out months later. You can turn it off in the add-on's settings.
The section in the new panel
The Sitemap section has moved into the new control panel: the same settings — which sections to include, how often to refresh the map and what to write in the rules for search robots — in the new look. The wording of the section now travels with the add-on itself, so it updates together with it.
An icon of its own
In the «Plugins» section and in the list of installed items the add-on now shows its own icon instead of an identical box, so you find the one you need at a glance. The icon appears on shops running version 1.30.0 and newer.
