Webmaster and indexing
Verify your site in Google Search Console and Bing without editing templates.
Until your site is confirmed in a webmaster account, you cannot see which queries bring people to you or what the search engine treats as an error. And a new product may wait weeks for the next crawl. This handles both, and you never have to touch the theme files.
What it does
- Places the ownership confirmation code for Google Search Console on every storefront page, invisible to shoppers.
- Places the confirmation code for Bing Webmaster Tools in the same way.
- Tells search engines through IndexNow about every change: add or edit a product, a section or an information page and the notice goes out at once; delete one and it goes out too.
- The key for those notices is created for you and the confirmation file is served on the storefront domain, so nothing has to be copied to the server.
- Notices are sent in the background and never delay saving; if the search engine cannot be reached the shop keeps working as usual and the failure is written to the log.
- Confirmation codes and notice sending are set per storefront: each domain is confirmed on its own.
What you need
- A Google Search Console account and the confirmation code it gives you (the on-page code method).
- A Bing Webmaster Tools account and its confirmation code, if you want Bing as well.
- A domain set for the storefront: change notices are only sent for storefronts that have one.
- Background task processing running — notices are sent in the background.
What appears in the shop
This is what a shopper sees once it is installed.
- The ownership confirmation code for Google Search Console and Bing is added to every shop page — shoppers never see it. The design is untouched and there is nothing to edit in the design editor. The confirmation codes are set separately for each storefront in the plugin settings.
New shop pages
- /{ключ}.txt A key file on the storefront domain that lets search engines verify update notices really come from your site. The file is produced automatically — you do not have to upload anything to the server. The key is shown in the plugin settings.
The section in the new panel
Verifying your site in Google and Bing and notifying search engines about changes right away are set up in the new control panel. The address of the key file is now shown as a link, so you can see it without leaving the section. The wording of the section travels with the add-on and updates together with it.
An icon of its own
In the «Plugins» section and in the list of installed items the add-on now shows its own icon instead of an identical box, so you find the one you need at a glance. The icon appears on shops running version 1.30.0 and newer.
